Keeping USA Wasteful, Again

“A policy to spend billions of dollars keeping uneconomic power plants afloat, while trying to put clean and affordable solar on the sidelines, is not a recipe for economic success. Energy experts across a range of industries, within the federal government and in academia have agreed that this sort of effort will create a bloated power sector deploying outmoded technologies. We urge policymakers to again block this ill-advised effort to keep plants running that most electric utilities have already decided to abandon, and for good reason.”

Trump breaks things. He’s not a deal-maker. He’s a deal-breaker. Producers of electricity have realized coal is too inefficient and dirty to be continued but Trump wants to keep his ill-considered promise to keep coal going and is considering ordering industries to keep buying coal. That’s stupid, dangerous, expensive, and has no good consequence. The folks who produce coal will not benefit in the long term by delaying the inevitable end of coal. This just increases the disruption that will inevitably result and burdens the whole economy with the cost.

Get with the 21st century, Trumpists. Being great in the future does not mean repeating the mistakes of the past. Solar, wind, water, etc. are feasible and clean. Promote them. Use them. Make the world a better place at the same time as you increase the efficiency of the economy.
