Donald Trump Unleashes The Hounds Of War

“Donald Trump has called for the US to “greatly strengthen and expand” its nuclear arsenal.”
See Donald Trump: US must greatly expand nuclear weapons
See what happens when you put a mad man in charge? Much of my lifetime was spent trying to put nuclear weapons back in the box so they would never be used. Now Trump wants to fire up the arms-race again, just to make USA “Great” again. What a short-sighted, wrong-headed, dangerous old fool is the president-elect.

What’s he going to do if the Congress won’t let him have his way? Start up a demonstration project? Provoke war? Have a Twitter tantrum? By the time they impeach him we may all have gone to Hell in a hand-basket. This is exactly the kind of behaviour Clinton and many others warned about and the bastard is not even in office yet. He could be provoking a dozen countries to develop or ramp up nukes. For what purpose? Just to show how stupid a commander in chief he can be?

I can see Saudi Arabia and Iran doing it. What about Egypt? There’s nothing like the existential threat of nuclear war to distract citizens from tyranny. Then Pakistan and India might get serious, or North Korea and the world around them. Will China just sit still while the pot boils? Then there’s Africa which is awash in uranium. How many tin-pot dictators could arise there trying to make their country “Great Again”TM? South America has tired of tyrants but this could inspire yet another. If USA can go nuts, why can’t we? If USA doesn’t have to honour decades-old treaties, why do we?

Robert Pogson said: “bigger nukes than the god-awful city-erasing ones they have now”

The limit to nuclear weapon size is basically the curvature of the earth. Anything bigger than about 30 Mega-Tonnes just blows a higher velocity hole in the atmosphere.
Total destruction to the radius of the horizon in any event.

    Not that is any comfort.

Whats wrong with rebuilding our nuclear stockpile?

The US will be less afraid of China and other dictatorial states. The elites don’t really like that, because they really like how China forces its citizens to tolerate near-slave labour conditions and unchecked pollution, and hence like the idea of the US being dragged by the nose by China and having the power to get its way (for example when it comes to import taxes)…. oh, you meant wrong by your perspective as a citizen concerned about the US having the military might to uphold democracy against future enemy dictatorships? Well sir, you are a deplorable.

Obama talked peace but had the US engage in the biggest nuclear arms buildup of all time for a TRILLION Dollars (this in a nation with third world “health care” and education, crumbling infrastructure, massive unemployment, and the largest prison population).

Maybe (and we can just hope), Trump, will talk up nuclear weapons but actually cut the numbers. In other words, be all presidents of the last few decades and do the opposite of what they say. His talking up of some things also may be a pre-negotiation tactic, something he has a history of having some expertise in.

  4. Ivan called what Trump wants as just like Obama… Not so. “greatly strengthen and expand” is not system-maintenance. It’s an all out arms war. We’re talking anti-anti-missile systems, first-strike capability, bigger nukes than the god-awful city-erasing ones they have now, nukes in space, nothing left that his fevered imagination does not embrace…

And he’ll probably buy up Greenland, Rhode Island or Nebraska for the Trump-bunker.

My opposition to nuclear war comes not from passivity but from self-preservation. I don’t want me or my descendants blasted, irradiated, or starved to death in a “nuclear winter“. We had measurable quantities of radioisotopes in dairy products in the 1960s simply from a few dozen nuclear “tests”. In addition to total destruction of cities and huge death tolls, Earth would experience thousands of times greater nuclear fallout than we imagined back in the day. I doubt many higher forms of life would survive. If there were a global nuclear winter, perhaps only the Inuit would survive. They might live on fish/seals in the cold for a few years while the atmosphere cleared but that would also involve concentration of fallout in the arctic, making life shorter and more miserable. What Trump is suggesting is just another military tool is unthinkable, yet he’s thinking about it. Be very afraid.

Sure, Bob. Except that is no different from what Barry wanted.

I see where you are getting your marching orders from Robert, you pacifist loon.

    Keeping crying.

Whats wrong with rebuilding our nuclear stockpile? A country cannot defend itself?
