9 Apple Trees All In A Row

Last year, I was bold enough to plant 3 apple trees out in the yard near the ditch without official permission from TLW… She was furious when she spotted the tiny things. She muttered something about cutting them down or digging them out… That was last year. This year, I planted a few maples at the back of a berm without permission. Again, she was irate, but she asked where I was going to plant anything else. I suggest more behind the berm. She said, “Why not there, in a row just past the septic field?”. OK! This is progress!

By trial and error, I’ve worn down her resistance to tree-planting for food/looks/coverage/homes-for-critters. Up til now she looked askance at anything not planted on a berm and it had better be a conifer or a shrub…

Well, now I have about 15 apple trees in the yard in three places, and one apricot in the front yard centred in the open space beyond the “main berm”. I’ll do another on the other open space beside the driveway. My “garden” is rapidly becoming an orchard with dozens of trees and she has accepted a patch of grapes. It’s paying off to provide her free labour to plant her trees. Trees can live here while vegetables are iffy. Marigolds are happy in good soil trucked in. I’m using them as living mulch around the trees, my own weeds to moderate growth of the trees, and enrich the soil slowly. Life is good. Perhaps she will accept some hackberries to anchor the corners of the lot…

UPDATE I retook those images from a bipod, and added a closer image of one apple tree and some marigolds loving each other. 😉 Had two sprigs of grapes for lunch… Delicious!

That’s the wrong question. You should have asked, “Why is the picture so blurry?”

I’m old and shaky. I should have used a rest for the camera. Will do-over…
