Another Police Force Being Set Free

“The police force in Lithuania have switched to using LibreOffice. This free and open source suite of office productivity tools is implemented on over 8000 workstations. The police has started to test the use of workstations running Ubuntu Linux.”

Yes! Another group of human beings escaping the Wintel treadmill. I love it. I escaped 16 years ago. Others just take a little more time.

The world can and does make its own software. We don’t need to be dependent on corporate giants telling us how to use the hardware we own. Their decisions are usually designed to maximize their profits at the expense of the world in time, energy, money,… any way you want to measure enslavement. I recommend LibreOffice for many typical desktop tasks and I run it on Debian GNU/Linux. It works for me and mine as it did for students and previous employers.
