My Mission
My observations and opinions about IT are based on 40 years of use in science and technology and lately, in education. I like IT that is fast, cost-effective and reliable. My first use of GNU/Linux in 2001 was so remarkably better than what I had been using, I feel it is important work to share GNU/Linux with the world. Now that I'm retired I still use GNU/Linux on every computer in my home except the smartphones which run Android/Linux.Lately, I've been giving lots of thought to the world I inherited and which I will leave to my descendants. I'm planting grass, trees, flowers and vegetables in my large lot and I've ordered a Solo EV. I plan to charge my Solo by means of a tracking solar array. Life is good if you have a purpose. I do.

I noticed a huge pop in my web stats for today and wondered why. The cause was a link on Tux Machines. There was a recent change of ownership. Now Dr. Roy Schestowitz and Rianne Schestowitz seem to be the … Continue reading

Wintel: Oh, The Horror! Competition!
I don’t know whether or not it’s wishful thinking but rumours have it that “Microsoft plans to further decrease Windows 8.1 licensing rates for entry-level PCs priced below US$250 and tablets, from nearly US$50 currently to about US$15, according to … Continue reading

Chromebooks Blossom
Hear those footsteps, Wintel? That’s GNU/Linux you hear, growing like Topsy while your sales stagnate.“There has been breakthroughs in sales of Chromebooks, with devices selling well in the inexpensive notebook segment in the US, and widely adopted for educational use … Continue reading

Yes, You Can Run (most of) a Winery On GNU/Linux
The crazies who come to my blog keep saying one must have that other OS everywhere on full thick clients. Here’s another anecdote of doing the obvious, running GNU/Linux thin clients almost everywhere with all kinds of benefits: “Our original … Continue reading
