Change Is The Spice Of Life

Hmmm… Spiceworks has done a survey from a variety of areas of business of IT professionals. Not surprisingly,

  • the majority of them have some machines running XP
  • a large percentage have some machines running “7” and a smaller percentage have some machines running “8.x”
  • cost/resources are the main reason they have not migrated those XP machines already

Somewhat surprising was the finding that 28% already run some */Linux machines. They don’t say whether they are Android or GNU… The presumption is that most will migrate to “7” because it’s the line of least resistance but perhaps some will increase their use of */Linux. The survey apparently did not ask that question… I think that because 28% run some */Linux machines as clients a good percentage of those machines will stay with */Linux and some of those XP machines will go to GNU/Linux. GNU/Linux has many configurations that are somewhat similar to XP. It’s a GUI with a pointing device and a keyboard, for instance. IBM and others report that a good proportion of usage of a PC could be handled by GNU/Linux in business without much trouble. Now is the time to do that.

See I knew the 1% lie was just BS and this survey flies in the face of what DrLoser stated, “no one cares about XP”
