Latest Wikimedia Traffic Analysis Report Shows A Jump In Usage Of GNU/Linux

The highlights:

  • Android/Linux 5.67%
  • GNU/Linux 2.06%
  • That Other OS 51.26%
  • If we only consider non-mobile PCs, TOS gets 70.7% of page-views

see Wikimedia Traffic Analysis Report – Operating Systems.
see also Breakdown By Country. I see Korea, Myanmar, and Oman are over 25% */Linux and Turkmenistan is still the outlier at 29%. The lowest scores for TOS are in USA, Europe, Bahrain, … near 35%. Oh, my! The dam has burst.

The report for June showed GNU/Linux at 1.63%, about where it was for many months. TOS was 56%. This is quite a jump. So, the revolution continues. M$ sinks rapidly in the west while Free Software rises in the East, making the whole world as bright as day.

  1. “GNU/Linux” is not too secure because there is no such thing except in the imagination of FSF zealots who are still butthurt because Communist Stallman didn’t get all the glory.

Now if you were to say that the NSA is annoyed that THE LINUX OPERATING SYSTEM (which uses the Linux kernel) is too secure, then yes, you have a good point there…

Yes. You’d think they’d want the bugs out so they could update their articles on market-share.

Interesting point is in those numbers Android has passed OS X in web countable numbers. Yes Apple desktop OS has less of a network presence than Android phones and tablets.

Even so these are still horible number to depend on. Particularly noting that the scripts making those numbers has documented non fixed bugs.
