The “Cancer” Needs No Cure

The layers of FUD that M$ has thrown over IT for decades are disintegrating. Even Ireland, which hosts M$’s outpost in Europe is discovering that FLOSS works for them…
“IT companies no longer tell public administrations that open source is a risk.”

see Ireland agency helps local governments beat open source fear.

What will the world of IT come to if people can run, examine, modify and distribute the software they use instead of living in a sealed box provided by M$ and “partners”? FREEDOM!

One interesting aspect of TFA is that LTSP, a thin client solution running on GNU/Linux is being tried out as are web applications like Drupal, SugarCRM, and products of European governments . Where will it all end? M$ slowly but surely is losing the game that it created with rules favourable to M$. It’s been a long time coming but it’s here.

Broken Windows, the apologist of proprietary, compares M$ to a miner of gold, but in reality it is fools gold that they offer to the world.

I think of it as a sort of gold mine that has produced mountains of rich ore over its history. It is still producing at a high rate, but the owners have to dig deeper and deeper to extract the rich ore. One day it will have played out and nothing but the leavings will remain and scavengers will scour through the tailings and no one will really care.
