AWKWARD it is!

"Windows 8 is awkward in that it tries to address the intuitive ease of use of a tablet with the compatibility and features of a PC. For a consumer, they see no need for all this when a low priced tablet or smartphone is sufficient and they can easily learn a few alternatives to Office for the consumer needs."

That’s an understatement. Every version of that other OS I have ever used has been awkward with unreliable performance, malware, mindless restrictions on performance via EULA and re-re-reboots. There’s no way to get an elegant performance out of M$. All M$ wants is money, not happy end-users. The plan is not working. MSFT was at a yearly low shortly after “8” was released.

If you want elegant performance from an OS, choose Debian GNU/Linux. It works for you instead of you working for it. You want to know what “elegant” means to me? Today, I sit at a PC in one room of my house and I control applications running on two other PCs without leaving my chair. Those other two PCs are usable by others all at the same time. See the possibilities? I am no longer restricted by an EULA or the performance of a single PC. That’s an elegant networking operating system at work. Need more computing power? Add another PC. It’s covered by the same copy of the licence as the first. You copy the software over and run it, legally. That’s elegant. It allows you to do anything you imagine your hardware can do rather than worrying about what M$ wants.

–And Desktop Linux does want happy end users? You may get Desktop Linux for free but your quality of life sure will suffer. Desktop Linux knows best how to f**k users over.–

Depends when in Linux history you are looking at. Early Linux history there was no rats given about desktop users.

You are seeing more focus in recent years of fixing the useablity issues.
