Verizon reminds the court in Apple v Samsung that there are much larger issues at stake in the matter:
- harming Verizon’s business, by restricting sources of 4G mobile equipment,
- harming consumers access to 4G equipment,
- harming the national interest of the USA in expanding wireless coverage and performance, and
- putting at risk $billions invested in the new technology.
The intervention is right on. Injunctions in such cases go far beyond the harm any infringement of a patent might cause. A better means to redress infringement is to require payment of royalties on a reasonable and non-discriminatory basis. I hope this intervention resonates with the court.
Interesting times where the MAD of patent warefare is making for strange alliances and rivals…
Verizon is trying to stop M.A.D. From playing out.
Yes now that M.A.D. has started patent law could get a major shake up.
