Mutual Assured Destruction used to be what kept us from nuclear war. Tech companies have not learned from the lessons of the Cold War. M$ and Motorola have chosen a hot war. M$ sued over use of ideas in Android and Motorola is counter-suing M$ over use of ideas in that other OS, servers and Xbox. They may both yet shoot down their own software patents and waste $millions in the process to say nothing of the PR hit. Who wants to deal with a company that sues customers?
M$ of course wants to suppress Android and Linux which underpins it. Motorola just wants quiet enjoyment of its business but M$ would not leave them alone. If anything good comes of all this it will be the death of a few more patents, possibly the death of all software patents or the publicizing that M$ is toothless and old. Change is good. It will be wonderful if the world learns they should not pay taxes to M$.
