Trump Lie Of The Week

“We’re building the wall,” he said. “In fact it’s going to start very soon. Way ahead of schedule. It’s way, way, way ahead of schedule.”

See Trump promises border wall ‘soon, way ahead of schedule’
Imagine going to a “conservative” gathering and saying a project is “way ahead of schedule” when there’s no budget for it and no schedule… The mind boggles. Does “conservative” have no moral/logical/fiscal basis anymore? Does “conservative” now mean “as flexible as a wet noodle”?

My life is a lot less complicated than POTUS’ but I can tell you with certainty that if I tried to put up a five foot wall around my property, TLW would have my hide. Then there’s Congress, which has a say in how the nation is run and how government is paid for by taxation. There’s also plenty of expert opinion that “the wall” would have no effect on illegal immigration and smuggling other than raising profits. That’s what happened when Congress banned drinking alcohol in the 1920s, what happened when USA declared “war on drugs” in the 1970s and what will happen if Trump manages to build even a five foot fence. I imagine when the bottom line is calculated for the next budget, this damned wall will be the first thing cut to reduce the deficit.

Trump is not so stupid that he doesn’t know smugglers are entrepreneurial, so this is just another lie in a long line of them, about a project of no value except getting elected by haters and lazy voters who are now aroused and angry and going after their congresspeople.

Yes. It was amazing to see “conservative” and “Christian” folk ignore the lies, bullying, misogyny, and hatred spewed by Trump. It’s mass hysteria. The idea that a GOP-controlled country could be stampeding away from Free Trade and other gems of industrialization and Free Enterprise is simply astonishing. That a country of immigrants could be building walls, both legal and physical, is astonishing. It’s madness. Let’s hope it’s temporary. I would like to see USA enter the 21st century with universal health care, refuge for refugees, and sharing. All the promise of USA is withering before my eyes into a hollow wrinkled shell like a balloon that leaked.

Trump built a coalition of citizens who felt they were being ignored by the established political system. Many of them were pretty fervent, too. Their common trait was that they were willing to overlook a lot of deficiencies in Trump as a leader if their personal issue was soothed.

Pro-lifers, for example, mostly do not care what might happen to Hispanic illegals or Muslim refugees if they could get a couple of right thinkers onto the SCOTUS. Coal miners in Appalachia were told they could get back to the mines if only the EPA rules were rescinded (never mind LNG was cheaper and Wyoming strip mines more efficient). High school grads were sure that the snowflakes in the universities were anti-American if not downright Communists. Curiously they also somehow got the idea that the Russians were heroic champions of free enterprise. Obamacare was socialism at its worst, too, and had to be eradicated.

Now it turns out that a lot of people have gotten used to the idea that their medical treatments were not subject to the whim and fancy of the insurance company actuaries. Some of the Muslims banned were stalwart supporters and aids to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Deporting a mother of several US citizen children for making up a Social Security Number brought a tear to a lot of eyes. John McCain and the respected generals are suggesting that Russia is actually still an enemy.

    Times will change again.

It’s not a “Lie”, it’s an “Alternative Fact”!

Well, there’s this little thing called Congress and the Constitution. The Constitution gives the power to Congress to allocate funds and raise taxes. There are no funds for a wall so how could there be a schedule? The thing is estimated to cost $billions. The most Trump can do is splash some slush on it to get it started, not finish it. Even if Trump hired 50 contractors to work in parallel, it might still take until he is no longer POTUS to finish the thing. That would not fit with his schedule, eh?

A project of the same order of magnitude was the Interstate Highway Project. That was for 47,856 miles of highway over a variety of terrain, just like “the wall”. If we budget about 5% of that cost for the wall, it comes to $25billion. That project started in 1916 and was finished decades later. Even with parallel processing, it could easily take four or five years to complete this thing if it could even be built. Some segments are just too steep for walls.

Some of the ideas I’ve seen for “the wall” are a simple high steel fence as used in many places already to a fence plus a road for service/interdiction and a fine big wall, so it’s not too different from a highway.

Further, if Trump actually had a schedule, what does “ahead of schedule” mean if the project has not started except for planning, perhaps? Am I ahead of schedule because I’ve a concept of what my cart for my alternator looks like? Nope. I’m way behind because I’ve had the alternator for more than a year now. It’ll happen, but it’s totally unknown when the great day will be. As is often said, “Show me the money!”

Just because YOU have not seen said budget and schedule, does not infer that there isn’t one. In essence, you’re whining should be directed at the LeMaker Cello debacle. I mean, there is no budget and or schedule for production is there? You took it on the chin in blind faith Pogsey.
