Reason Number One Why I Need A Solo EV

I buy a lot of stuff on the Internet. It saves me time. It allows easy comparisons of prices and products. It saves costs for transportation. This weekend two shipments of my stuff arrived at a post office in a nearby town. The cards informed me when and where I could pick them up… However, yesterday was a holiday. Today TLW needs the car all day… If I had my Solo, I could drive to the PO and back any time that suited me. I need it.

Also, I want it. It’s cute and costs little to operate/own. 😉 Too bad Solo is yet to enter mass production. I have to wait a year…

Before I finished writing this, one of my parcels arrived on my doorstep… I’m thinking one hand of the post office doesn’t know what the other is doing. Is Trump running Canada Post?

Yesterday I bought an offset/angle grinder for my welding. I visited several websites and chose a good brand with good reviews, clicked “add to cart” and “place order” and it was done. I even got a choice of post office… Compared to visiting two or three bricks and mortar places, I saved a bundle of time and money. The device is made in China but I’m buying it from Amazon.ca. I’m also checking out a new supplier for steel pipe for the grand kids giant swing. Buying online could make me a hero, world’s greatest grand dad/hubbie etc.

“I buy a lot of stuff on the Internet. It saves me time.”

Actually, that should read as, “I buy a lot of junk from China. It wastes my time”

    You’re welcome.

  3. dougman says:

“Instead of posting junk you time would be better spent in fact get your facts”

Instead of writing like a 5-year old, perhaps you should study proper sentence structure?

For example; “you time”…”in fact get your facts”??

    Grade: D-

  4. oiaohm says:

dougman so again another off topic post.
So Fifi, are you the illegitimate half-breed child of Lord Humungus?
Instead of posting junk you time would be better spent in fact get your facts in order on the post so not filling it with garbage as well. Apparently you brain its too weak to handle two of the same kind of topics on topic.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pursuit_Special
The EV Solo is an electric car, the V8 Interceptor is a car too.
V8 Interceptor is not a car but a class.

Madmax car class naming is based off Australian Federal Police naming that is based off UK police class naming that different states of the USA police force use the same class naming. So a car with V8 engine give it the V8 and Interceptor means a car design for pursuit by a police force. So a Solo is not an Interceptor. Madmax V8 Interceptor means something. But it correct name is Mad Max Pursuit Special or Main Force Patrol Pursuit Special. The class Pursuit Special is a list of modifications to particular cars the first one with that name was the Mad Max Pursuit Special. So this is where something that happens in the movie alters operational naming in the real Police Force. Main Force Patrol is a fiction sub department of the Australian Federal Police calling the car V8 Interceptor as it class is taken straight from the Australian Federal Police hand book at the time. The the real name made up by the MadMax movie the Pursuit Special becomes the common naming for the mod kit Australian Police have fitted to interceptors equip after the movie.

Yet USA idiots call it the incorrect name all the time that you have no clue that interceptor is a class. Even to the USA police force they have cars that are class V8 interceptors that have nothing to-do with Madmax. dougman basically this is kind of off topic but its because you were as normal totally wrong.

So again what does a V8 interceptor have to-do with a Solo absolutely nothing other than you being a idiot grasping at straws trying to prove yourself a scrap on topic when you were not a single bit on topic. Because only a idiot would reference V8 interceptor and try to say its related to a PV class vehicle.

Now dougman try to get you next post on topic.

  7. dougman says:

The EV Solo is an electric car, the V8 Interceptor is a car too.

    SHRUG.

  8. oiaohm says:

dougman its not that you are not known for taking discussions off topic. Its not paranoid when you are guilt of it.
Paranoid much Ham-Dong? Are you wearing that tinfoil hat, singling songs of Thunderdome and dreaming of driving a V8 Interceptor, even though you have no means or skills to drive.
Name me one thing in this that is on topic that was put down Robert.

That right absolutely nothing. So this is just you filling the thread as normal with off topic junk because you are such a idiot dougman that you cannot follow a basic idea of a topic.

  10. oiaohm says:

So no agenda hammy? I am not surprised to be honest. Setting home and collecting money from the Australian government is much easier, eh?
Of course dougman would wild guess this. Tell me talking about what I have planned what does it have to-do with the topic Robert set here. Absolutely nothing right. Its just you attempting to take topic in a direction that might be an advantage to you because you cannot accept that you have no valid points to bring to the floor.

What you think a stupid post that that would conner me. All it shows is that you cannot stay on topic so will screw up something when attempting to do a complex job because you cannot keep your mind on topic. In other words recent line of stupidity just proves you an idiot.

  11. dougman says:

So no agenda hammy? I am not surprised to be honest. Setting home and collecting money from the Australian government is much easier, eh?

  12. oiaohm says:

dougman in fact by your levels of lies you have used I have no reason to believe you are doing anything bar coming up some excuse.

  13. oiaohm says:

dougman what this tells me that you are so out of things to attack me with that you are now wanting to tell me about your personal life to have a topic you stand a chance on. I have told you stuff I would be doing other times and you have not believed me so what would be the point now.

  14. dougman says:

“Heck by some of your lack of understand of why particular equipment is required it a surprise you are not dead yet.”

So what does that tell you feeble one? When was the last time you crept out of the basement and accomplished anything in life?

Currently, I have a 1600 sq.ft concrete slab to prep and pour, this includes vapor barrier, taping and setting basalt rebar. Trenching 100-ampere service to said barn. Trenching corex drain pipe from my barn downspouts.

Do tell us, what is on your agenda this week?

  15. oiaohm says:

dougman really DrLoser said you would be able to defeat me apparently you are only suit able to throw up childish insults because you are complete idiot. Heck by some of your lack of understand of why particular equipment is required it a surprise you are not dead yet.

  16. dougman says:

Fun fact: You are still are a complete moron.

  17. oiaohm says:

dougman what to the point you cannot add anything to the topic bar a insult.

    http://bigstory.ap.org/article/f9300e3441d34954bf282e8d22b4cbfe/new-rules-pave-way-three-wheeled-autocycles
There reality you get a thing called autocycles.

If something is a autocycle or not is based on it size, chassis design not it wheel count. Because it was found insane to split some of them.

Toyota i-Road that is 3 wheels and Renault Twizy that is 4 wheels. Both target the same market. Neither fits correctly current USA regulations for car. Under X size and mass of car there is currently no consistent regulation be it 3,4,5,6,8 wheels.

There is a original category for these vehicles .
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peel_Trident
Its Microcar. Of course the USA has to come up with a new term autocycle because it too hard to do some homework and use the correct term for these vehicles that has been used since the first 3 and 4 wheel really small cars.

  18. dougman says:

Please note, you are a moron.

  19. oiaohm says:

Four wheels means car in the USA (if you don’t want your EV limited to Neighbourhood Electric Vehicle speeds). Car means passing crash tests.
Kurkosdr NYPD has 3 Wheel vehicles that are registered using scooters the Go-4 Interceptor. http://westwardindustries.com/vehicles/go-4/ Please note 45 mph ie 70kph and the Neighbourhood Electric Vehicle speed limit is 35 mph (56 km/h).

There are faster 3 wheel vehicles there are others that do 200kph+. You are kind right and kind of wrong.

    Car means passing crash tests.
If a 3 wheeler is declared car due to speed and chassis design it has to pass all the same crash tests as a 4 wheel car.

It is a import question what is this 3 wheel vehicle being registered as and what testing is required. Yes the usa 4 wheel stupidity in some case has caused something super stupid.
    http://www.21stcenturymotoring.com/
Some states the monotracer above has to be registered as a car. Because at least some of the time it has 4 wheels on the ground.

It would be simpler to say if you are enclosed you have to have the same testing.

A 4 wheel golf cart also does not have to pass all the crash testing either.

    http://www.digitaltrends.com/cars/lazereth-maserati-powered-motorcycle/
This 4 wheels. Some USA states it a car others it a motorcycle. As a car it gets a absolute zero crash rating.

So the idea that 4 wheels is a car is on the point of stupid. If something is a car or not should be decided more by chassis shape and speed than number of wheels.

There are 3,4,5,6 and 8 wheel cars in existence and registered in the USA as cars. Yes the common case is 4 but that does not cover all cases.

“They really should have used 4 wheels to avoid licensing issues in many countries. ”

Four wheels means car in the USA (if you don’t want your EV limited to Neighbourhood Electric Vehicle speeds). Car means passing crash tests.

I ‘ll let you full-time the gaps as to why they omitted the fourth wheel.

  22. ram wrote, “They really should have used 4 wheels to avoid licensing issues in many countries. The door arrangement could also be better.”

One less wheel is less rolling resistance, less air drag, lower cost of operation, and less yaw-torque under slippage. So, I like that. I, too, have concerns about the door-openings.

    1. I struggle with decisions. Which door will I use? There’s no best answer. Should I alternate to even the wear? Should I use the door closest to my planned point of interest? Should I always use the left one as I do now? Should I always use the right one just for the heck of it?
    2. The battery-banks are in the door openings. That’s good to distribute the mass but I lack flexibility and may have trouble getting in. I think getting out will be OK. I can spin in the seat and put the feet out first. Getting in will require more flexibility in real time…
  23. dougman wrote, “you are actually talking yourself into buying this toy.”

I’m beyond that. I’ve persuaded TLW that I will be buying this toy. I’ve lined up funds too although I may take a small loan to spread the retirement income over two or more years.

  24. ram says:

  25. dougman says:

Seems to me Pogsey, that you are actually talking yourself into buying this toy.

  26. oiaohm says:

    http://www.zagatovolpe.com/

Robert Pogson this one would be worth a look. From the start I considered the Solo design a little bit of a worry. Volpe is able to be fuel electric hybrid.

    http://electrameccanica.com/ca/our-story-ca/
I was missing the biggest mistake. The solo has gone for a standard car door instead of a rotating or sliding door. This undermines the compactness resulting in needing bigger parking space so you can get in and out of it. Solo is a good start but a few improvements like changing doors to match volpe adding option for hybrid for longer range/recovery. Then it would be decent.

So there are ways to build quite decent 1 and 2 seater cars.

  27. Kurkosdr wrote, “I wouldn’t consider the purchase of a Solo EV a fool’s move, just a half-arsed solution.”

Nope. It’s a perfect solution for me except I might not be able to stow my 12 foot/2 section fishing rod on the way to the river or my longest firearms on the way to the range. Fortunately, I can also walk to the river and I do have some rather short firearms. A roof-rack would be interesting…

  28. Kurkosdr says:

Is a fool and his money soon parted? MOST CERTAINLY

    That’s harsh. I wouldn’t consider the purchase of a Solo EV a fool’s move, just a half-arsed solution.

  29. Kurkosdr wrote, “most businesses run by Trump himself instead of just renting the nane succeeded”.

That’s probably true since he dabbled in hundreds of companies I’m told. However, we see how he manages the White House and how he has no care about the US budget at all. It’s a good thing you have Congress to balance the budget… He did have a lot of bankruptcies and some were HUGE, like the casinos. That was just poor business judgment. It’s laughable how he brags about looking out for the little man when those bankruptcies really hammered a bunch of tradespeople and small businesses. Trump is looking out for Trump and he isn’t doing a very good job of actually delivering anything but words, repeated many times for emphasis. With the $trillions he’s going to spend on defence and infrastructure and the damned wall, how will he save Medicare/ObamaCare? Do the maths because Trump can’t.

  30. Douglas Smith wrote, “Need is vastly different then want Pogsey.”

Well, none of us need much more than food, clothing and shelter, but it’s hard to get any of those without moving around and I don’t think my neighbours would like me taking food and clothing from their properties, so I either need to walk for four days to fill a backpack or I need a car. TLW uses mine often. So, I need a second car. Actually, it’s probably a replacement for the gas-guzzler since it’s getting old and costs $hundreds for just a brief visit to the service station. TLW will tire of it soon, I expect. I would not be surprised if she decided to buy one of her own. The Solo is small enough we could easily park two in our three-car garage. 😉 Then there’s always the driveway…

  31. Kurkosdr says:

    Is Trump running Canada Post?

No. If he did, Canada Post would be a private company, and it would either succeed or fail (although most businesses run by Trump himself instead of just renting the nane succeeded, which means his one hand does know what his other hand is doing).

But you see, Canada Post is yet another government/semi-goverment owned company so they can be as inept as they want because at the end they will have a nice government subsidy to cover losses, a nice government-granted monopoly (which means they can never go bankrupt) or have exclusive deals with the government to deliver some of their letters (which means they can never go bankrupt).

  32. Douglas Smith says:

Need is vastly different then want Pogsey.

    Do you absolutely need?? NO.

    Do you absolutely want?? SURE.
