New Look And Function At The Linux Kernel Archives

New_Linux_kernel_page

I kind of miss the old page… Oh well, change happens. One thing I don’t see on the new pages is the note about what happened during the intrusion of last fall… I guess we will find out eventually, or not. The new layout is easy on the eyes and works for me. It certainly makes it easy to find information which is the point of having the site besides distributing code.

I thought they already offered a bit more information here

The new Linux kernel archives gave up some modest level of functionality for considerably increased security. Several Linux magazines have published articles about it.

ram I really don’t think they gave up any functionality they were using.

Does bring a question how many web sites out there could trim the fat.

The restyle is a bit jarring think the kernel.org had exactly the same style for over 15 years. We had got way use to it. I will miss the old style because I had seen it for so many years.

That’s fairly clear but the method of attack was not confirmed. I suspect that stolen/borrowed/misused passwords/keys were the doorway but still the FUD continues about how easily compromised GNU/Linux servers are. I have seen hundreds of compromised machines running that other OS but not any running GNU/Linux.

This report is by a guy who is informed but it’s not on kernel.org as promised. When I inquired, I was told the report was not out because the matter was still under investigation by the authorities.

I think the FUD would disappear if they actually explained what happened and what they did to prevent it happening in future, Robert.

You know, the Four Freedoms and all?

It’s a bit of a shame that they’re hiding behind a corporate wall of silence, don’t you think?

My Mission

My observations and opinions about IT are based on 40 years of use in science and technology and lately, in education. I like IT that is fast, cost-effective and reliable. I do not care whether my solution is the same as yours. I like to think for myself.

My first use of GNU/Linux in 2001 was so remarkably better than what I had been using, I feel it is important work to share GNU/Linux with the world. I have been blessed by working in schools where students and school systems have benefited by good, modular software easily installed in most systems.

I have shown GNU/Linux to thousands of students and hundreds of teachers over the years and will continue in some way doing that until I die in spite of the opposition.
