“8″ Flopping Around in the Weeds

“StatCounter Global Stats finds that by 26th November 2012 Windows 8 had worldwide internet usage share of 1.31% compared to 4.93% achieved by Windows 7 one month after its launch in 2009.”

see Windows 8 slower out of the traps than predecessor Windows 7.

The big dent in supplies of PCs with “7″, the lack of sales of “8″ and the economies mean the world will be shopping for small cheap computers for a long time to come. Queue rapid growth of GNU/Linux and Android/Linux which do fit well in the prices of small cheap computers.

BTW, if the recently touted “40 million” number reflected sales to users, the share would be something like 40 million/1500 million ~ 3%. So, OEMs and retailers have taken a “bath” in red ink while M$ laughs all the way to the bank. You’d think they would learn their lesson sooner rather than later. The first rats to leave survive the sinking.

“Can you please show us your numerous B.A. degrees and other certificates?”

An ad hominem (Latin for “to the man”), short for argumentum ad hominem, is an argument made personally against an opponent, instead of against the opponent’s argument.[1] Ad hominem reasoning is normally described as an informal fallacy,[2][3][4] more precisely an irrelevance.

Oiaohm: “Ivan the funny part is the ability is a documented one.”

Documented by who? Where? Would you kindly provide a link for us? Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence, but you always seem to be lacking in the latter. Kinda reminds me of the time you claimed Opera used KHTML code in one of their builds. You made the claim but left requests for the evidence hanging.

One thing I can add is that with the release of Steam for Linux, whats the point of using Windows? I use to say that Windows is for games, but I quit saying that and now just say, “Windows is for malware and viruses”

Windows 8 and related hardware launched Oct. 26. To date, Microsoft has been mum on sales data, with the exception of Windows unit co-chief Tami Reller’s claim last month that 40 million licenses have been sold. The number is meaningless, given that Microsoft has refused to say how many of those copies are preinstalled on systems that have yet to find a buyer.

…buyers who want a Surface right now are stuck with Surface RT, a $499-and-up device that can run apps only preinstalled by Microsoft or downloaded from the somewhat limited Windows Store — no Facebook, no Twitter, no LinkedIn.
Small wonder Surface RT unit sales are projected to come in at well under a million in the current quarter, according to analysts at brokerage Detwiler Fenton. (By contrast, Apple sold three million iPads in three days following November’s launch of the iPad Mini.

Come on, Pogson, I’m trying to get the guy into the JREF challenge. Stop raining on our parade!

Besides, how he does it is immaterial. He’s already claimed to be able to reliably reproduce the effect and has even outlined test scenarios that JREF is sure to approve.

Did I mention $1 million dollars?

  5. Robert Pogson

    Prong Reboots wrote, “electromagnetic fields”.

Note, oiaohm wrote, “electric fields” implying a static field or a slowly varying electric field. The magnetic fields of the human body are much more tiny, a relativistic effect of electric fields changing over time. Note that the weapons-geeks use infrared to track people, not their e-m emanations. There’s a reason for that. The warmth of a human body puts out a lot more energy.

Of course, I could argue that my nerve impulses cause my hand to move and to turn on the stove…

  6. Prong Reboots

oiaohm, are you aware that you can win $1 million USD from JREF for reproducing your claimed abilities in a controlled environment?

And don’t let Pogson discourage you; electromagnetic fields can still boil water via induction so just ask for the water to be placed in an iron cauldron.

Please let us know what James Randi thinks of your abilities. If you can convince him, you can literally convince the world.

  7. James Mandingo

Ivan I am only interference not destruction. Yes I can do the heat water stunt. Can I make it boil no I cannot since I cannot generate a field strong enough todo that. This is a Marital arts ability in china or a gypsy trickier from russia.

Martial arts ability from China? You mean from Hong Kong where the martial arts films are made? Yeah, those visual effects are tricky, you almost don’t see they’re there. After watching “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” I tried to elegantly fly from tree to tree … but gravity intervened.

I have to retract my previous statement. I’m not sorry. You really are nuts.

  8. Robert Pogson

oiaohm wrote, “Remember the more powerful of field abilities can take like a cup of water and use the field from body to heat it to over 100 C so it boils. Use different metal materials as fire starters that are never consumed.”

This is nonsense. A strong electric field will not boil water. Heating water requires energy to be transferred. An electric field does not do that very well at all. A microwave oven, for instance, only works because the RF is tuned to a vibration mode of water molecules, far beyond any human frequency. Indeed, you can transfer energy to water by shaking it more effectively than any human electric field and it still will not boil.

Metals burned are consumed in that they become metallic oxides. That’s ancient science. Don’t waste our time with such nonsense.

  9. oiaohm

Ivan the funny part is the ability is a documented one. And its one I have been able to demonstrate. Some of the people who hate computer who say they crash all the time for them. Its the true fact.

Just due to people being so much of bigot. They don’t check little things like is the human one of the rare percentage who do put off a good block of electromagnets fields. The detection gear is surprisingly primitive.

Remember the more powerful of field abilities can take like a cup of water and use the field from body to heat it to over 100 C so it boils. Use different metal materials as fire starters that are never consumed. People with that strength can cook the electronics cause it to put out magic blue smoke even if it turned off. Some of these people like old style wind up watches. Why they last compared to the modern electronic stuff that die on them all the time.

Ivan I am only interference not destruction. Yes I can do the heat water stunt. Can I make it boil no I cannot since I cannot generate a field strong enough todo that. This is a Marital arts ability in china or a gypsy trickier from russia. The heat water stunt/able to melt snow is a very useful survival ability for people from cold clients. Can make the difference between life and death.

I can replicate most of the old gypsy trickier. The enchanted pendant where the pendant appears to heat up by magic to convince person its enchanted this gypsy trick appears a lot of computer games. The most creative is putting chemicals on the pendant that glow when heated. Yes lot of games for enchanting items look are based on gypsy tricks. Suspended magically glowing/heated so enchanted.

Like it is not magic any more the put pendant in a small Faraday cage will not heat no matter what the person trying to trick you that is being magically enhanced does. Place pendant above modern day induction cook top and it reacts kinda the same.

Person wearing a detect pendant able to transmit pulse to them(this does not fall under ESP because there is no extra sense to detect it). This is good to fake mind reading. Like draw card show it to audience and don’t show me. I be the one sitting in the front row. Who tells the person who is pretending to mind read what the card was since I don’t have to say a word or sign or move to send pulses.

The ability before science and the means to see through the trick was highly profitable.

IVAN my statement is not insane there are some very interesting human abilities.

IVAN you are a bigot and you don’t get it. The wifi jamming ability owns to a subset of human abilities that not everyone has. That have been publicly displayed many times over yet bigots like you keep on saying cannot exist IVAN. Its just like some people can wiggle ears and others cannot. Just the electromagnetic abilities get in history confused with magic.

Mind you a person like you would say that a person using my trick ability had just managed to dispose of the radio transmitter because you don’t want to believe the fact some humans can do it.

This is the funny part tell the truth you call me a lier or nuts.

Ivan the damage to my name was done long before I mention the electromagnetism abilities of humans.

The funny part is you are more willing to believe the lie. Yes due to the unwillingness of the public to believe most of the highly powerful of the ability don’t admit to it.

Ivan you think I blame others. For how my life has gone. Every path has its own advantages. Attacked reputation where you no longer have to care about it means you can speak your own mind freely.

All these MS Trolls have had the universal idea of destroy the person. Not beat them on facts or research. Yes the destroy the person works for so long. Until one of the people you encourage to attack successfully go too far. Then when you have a person like me who has to do so much writing to keep dyslexia under control. You have just created your worse enemy. Insulting me is pointless.

Trying to claim I am nuts is pointless as well. Over my life time I have 6 reports that say I am sane and without mental illness other than the side effects of dyslexia. Extrema case of dyslexia meant doing school work in primary and early high school generated huge volumes of pain. This also meant for that time of my life I was a highly violent person. Its very hard to be a nice person when you are in agony.

Does this explain the walls of text. Its simpler to do the amount of required writing that is going to generate pain when I am going to be angry and how. Anger release the some chemicals that suppresses pain.

Ivan my life was ruined mostly by what I was born with and the bigots that exist in this world not wanting to understand.

Who are the biggest bigots on-line. This would be MS Trolls.

You might be shocked by this but I did give a person who need MS Visual studio for his school work to work in wine forum who had a laptop who hard drive had died so no restore discs. Where to download legally a new windows iso image.

Linux users understand at times people do need to use Windows so will assist people to achieve that legally. Most MS trolls if a person has something where they need to run Linux would not provide any assistance at all. Who are the bigots.

MK wrote, “I doubt any GNU product (not even all of then combined) can boast a similar achievement, despite the “rapid growth” you keep proclaiming.”

GNU more or less does not put out high-level/application software. The GNU project was about an OS and its infrastructure, so the comparison is not relevant. Linux, for instance, gets copied hundreds of millions of times annually and a large portion of Linux’s run with GNU and all use GNU tools to some extent. Android/Linux is about the only exception. Still every OEM produces GNU/Linux units and many large and small organizations and individuals use GNU/Linux.

The GNU project has grown and diversified. Just glancing at the list, I expect gcc and make are huge in the programmers’ communities and dr-geo and gcompris are huge in education and there’s gimp for most users. I’ve had Grade 3,4,5 students use grep and a wordlist to cheat at KHangman… They loved it.

lpbear wrote, “NO ONE looking at the Win8 computer no matter which type it was”.

That was my observation wrt “7″. My local Wal-mart did not even have desktops on display, just in boxes under the counter… There were a few notebooks. It’s time retailers adjusted their shelf-space to demand. I would bet any PC with GNOME 2 ish environments would sell better than “8″ out of the box. People do love rectangular regions of the screen with widgets and menus. They love Android/Linux on small computers. I would bet if retailers gave GNU/Linux a try they could sell some units.

  22. Robert Pogson

oiaohm wrote, “Google can provide how many android tablets are out there and active there are to find.”

That’s a good point. Google’s “activations” are a lot more trustworthy than NetApplications’ “web stats”.

Let’s see. NetApplications reports for November that Android/Linux is at 2.79% of all web accesses. IDC: ” total Android smartphone shipments worldwide reached 136.0 million units, accounting for 75.0% of the 181.1 million smartphones shipped in 3Q12″. That’s about 1/3 of x86 PCs shipped for all of 2012, meaning, Android/Linux’s share should be sky-rocketing far above 2.79%. The number should be more like 20%… Of course, NetApplications is counting something but it’s not share of installations/instances of OS. Statcounter is worse in some ways. They show Android/Linux ahead of iOS for “mobile OS” yet iOS gets 3% share of OS and Android/Linux is a no-show for “operating system”. I guess the “friends of M$” have not gotten their stories straight.

  23. James Mandingo

That’s why I changed the way I dealt with them. I saw no reason to play their little game and go ’round and ’round with them. Facts, content, it didn’t mean a damn thing to them. That’s been the case for the last 3 years here. Or whenever it was when they first showed up. They had to be told every day that GNU/Linux was more than 1% of the desktop. They had to be told every day, anew, that Linux was everywhere, not just a dismal showing on the desktop. They had to be told everyday, anew, that Linux was not just a hobbyist’s OS. Every day they forgot everything they knew about GNU/Linux and FLOSS and had to be retrained. And most of us dutifully went through and typed out the truth and set them straight AGAIN! I’m sure they laughed about how many times they got us to repeat the same thing. Maybe they kept a score card to see who got the most repeats of the same argument.

Day in and day out, month after month, I watched the dialogue repeat itself like a bad version of Ground Hog Day.

  26. oiaohm

kozmcrae really the better answer the MS trolls are running on fumes they are out of good arguments. So they their arguments no longer make any sense.

The 1 percent and low percent arguement based on web numbers it getting more and more unstable as more and more solid data is coming in from Google. Google can provide how many android tablets are out there and active there are to find.

This is the MS trolls real problem. Proper and correctly collected data is disagreeing with the data they depend on.

At the second store, a large office supply chain, there was NO ONE looking at the Win8 computer no matter which type it was. Completely empty aisles in the computer section. Smoking Win8 Xmas sales! Merry Xmas Mickeysoft! I’m so glad your sock is less empty this year.

MK remember windows 8 is not starting from a standing start. You had all the beta users??? Or did not Microsoft get many beta users to upgrade this time.

So you can say that Windows 8 has already had 6 to 8 months to get market share. So yes having 4 percent is what you normally would expect.

Interesting one that came out of some people doing some checking. Turns out telephone networks large numbers of them use NAT. So millions of phones disappear into a handful of IP address.

So the one thing we are find more and more Webstats are highly bias to home users using Adsl. Android phone lot of there carriers nat to reduce IP need. There are IPv6 Nats. Using IPv6 does not mean you are not behind a Nat.

What tells you that you have a really big problem with the web stats is that google reports number of activated devices. This is on line activated.

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/6239/googles-eric-schmidt-13m-android-device-activations-per-day-480m-android-devices-in-the-market

Android cross 1.5 million devices online activated per day. This is 45 million per month. Or 5 million more than what Windows 8 sells per month entering the Internet network and actually seen there. Or 25 million more than Windows 7 average.

MK due to googles exact numbers there is a lot of questions about web stats why they are under counting Android devices. Or we have one hell load of software piracy.

Because that 1.3 percent is only ment to be 40 million sales. Android has done several months of over 40 million units entering the internet and it barely registers.

So since we know there is more android devices than what is showing. Is the reason why I went looking and found that IPv6 Nats exist and are used by mobile telephone carriers around the world. This explains why part of the stats is out.

Please note the 1.5 million a day is only devices approved to access google store or those hacked to access google store.

If android can be this badly counted why cannot ubuntu or debian by webstats MK. We need to know why Android is being miss counted. Then see if Linux users fall into the exact same camp.

So GNU/Linux growth might exceed Windows but due to it being such a bitch to count no one knows. Android/Linux is not a bitch to count since we can count it at its activation and at its software store collecting updates. Yes we know there are 480+million active android devices out there that are regularly checking in with the update system and software store. So that does not count the ones that have been recycled or disposed of since they no longer are connecting.

I would love if Microsoft would release there Windows update stats. To tell us how many they know are on-line.

Remember Android is doing 45+ Million a month. MS Windows first month that should have collected beta testers buying only does 40 Million. Really compared to Android 60 million for the pent up demand that should have been there is what you should have expected.

Then you have to remember demand averaged out over the complete live span of Windows 7 was only 20 million units per month. Half that of current android. There was also a spike at the start of Windows 7. Its the second and third months that show what on going.

MK yes the 1.3 percent shows a major issue in numbers.

Other suspects is the fact with Android devices you have more apps to talk to places like facebook that avoids advertising groups that web stats use for collecting there numbers.

Ubuntu is able to collect some numbers from there default time server. But these are not exact. GNU/Linux lack of unique ID numbers makes life very hard to count them.

Windows and Android and other OS’s like them we should have perfect numbers on how many are on-line if companies running the update systems talk.

Microsoft is unlikely to tell us the update stats since this may show roughly how many machines are being converted. Microsoft sales vs update stats.
