This report didn’t say Microsoft wasn’t a market leader. It said, in so many words, Microsoft isn’t as much of a market leader as it used to be. And that’s what the report before this one said. And there’s good reason to believe the next report will say something similar.

You are still using the same old reasoning, “Microsoft is a big company so it isn’t in trouble.”. That’s nonsense. Microsoft is taking hits on all of its markets.

You are also attempting to drag this discussion into an old thread that has nothing to do with this discussion. That is disingenuous of you Chris. What’s the matter, is this discussion going badly for you? Do you feel it better to change it?

Or are you done with this discussion and now you just want to trash it completely? I think there should be a penalty for doing that. That discussion has be talked to death. Even web stats show M$ has declined from 95% share to ~70% in the last decade. That was largely due to increasing use of */Linux and MacOS. At this rate, market leadership is in doubt. If you consider mobile stuff as personal computers, M$’s share is just above 50%. They are down to ~70% even in their home country. They may still be numerically leading but the rate of decline is dramatic. It’s a matter of when and how low they will go. 2012 is the last year that leadership might be in doubt. Consider the “secure boot” thing. Next year M$ will not be in a position to pull off such nonsense without consensus. Do not confuse M$’s revenue with their leadership. Revenue is tied to OEM shipments which have increased a lot over the years. This year, however, OEM shipments of M$’s stuff have stagnated.

Linux might be the market leader right now. Just a particular segment is just resistant.

My way for Microsoft to fail has always been the law of advancing tech with reducing price.

Chris Weig there was always a end to Microsoft rain of control. Foss people are now designing there own boards. They are also proto designing there own CPU chips as well. Cost of doing this has reduced.
