Robert, I've got to agree with both you and Dougman. Welding is fun. I saved money by repairing a broken motorcycle saddle bag bracket using my Sears Mapp gas and oxygen torch set and brazing rods. It was my motorcycle and I enjoyed it because I didn't have to pay someone else to fix it or replace the part.

Getting paid is fun; doing it yourself and not having to pay someone is also fun.

Installing Linux on my netbook and not having to pay for a Windows license is also fun. :-)

Sincerely, George

dougman wrote, "Making money from welding small projects for people IS fun. "

I like the fireworks and making two pieces of steel into one. Amazing stuff. When I was a lot younger I bought surplus several tons of these steel T-bars. I still have ~1000 lb left. I have made swing-sets, teeter-totters, shelves, all kinds of braces and frames and now a greenhouse is in the works. I got the stuff for pennies/lb. It's epoxy-painted and resists rust so if I paint the welds it lasts decades in the weather. Another project is a portable hoist for boulders, pumpkins and such. I already have a cart that can carry a ton behind the riding mower... I bought this steel in 1988 and it should last me until I die at this rate. Bless government waste...
