“The Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (Vista), an open source hospital information system used in 160 hospitals, several hundreds of clinics and more than a hundred nursing homes, will become part of the Debian free software distribution.”
Wow! Who thought Debian GNU/Linux was only for geeks? Vista is a huge part of the Debian Med (Medical Group). It is a package built to run the IT of medical facilities and includes
- Clinical Functions,
- Financial-Administrative Functions,
- Infrastructure Functions, and
- Patient Web Portal Functions.
There are lots of non-geeky packages in Debian GNU/Linux as well, like LTSP for schools, and packages for scientists, engineers and artists.

If you consult your favorite Wikipedia stats on OS use, Mr. Pogson, you will note that Debian is favored by less than 1% of the Linux users, making it one of the least popular Linux varieties. Perhaps that handful of users are not geeks, but they are certainly a sparsely encountered bunch.

If you counted how many downloads there were from their repositories, I bet you’d find they get more hits than any other distro.

Blatant attempt to change the subject by a moron.
Wow, specialized software that normal people don’t want or need running on linux… never seen that before.
By the way, Bob, why don’t you ban the assholes that agree with you from time to time? We all know you are a hypocrite, but you could show some consistency in your moderation.

How come you chide me for being out of context and that I am a cyberstalker and am totally audacious in even questioning your brilliant comments, but pray tell what exactly has this comment of your’s got to do with using Debian Med.
Unless of course it is my total lack of intellect that stops me from seeing how you comment ties in with the subject matter.
@ Clarence Moon
Oh I nearly forgot, your comment refers “you will note that Debian is favored by less than 1% of the Linux users, making it one of the least popular Linux varieties.”
Would you care to substantiate these figures.
Or are your calculations based on monetary terms.
JR: “Would you care to substantiate these figures.”
Uhh.. Hello! McFly! *smacks you in the back of the head*

You are missing the point of my request but no matter.
