Hiring Former Manager of Phoney “7” – Is This a Joke?

I had a hard time parsing the the title of this article, “NQ Mobile Hires Past Windows Phone Product Marketing GM“. My mind was getting stuck on “Hires Past”… I was visualizing an obstacle in the doorway of the human resources department somewhere. The rest of the title flows better. It’s hard being a “detail man” sometimes.

Anyway, after I passed the title I could hardly believe my eyes, that any organization would boast of hiring the guy who “led Microsoft’s product marketing and platform planning teams as well as Windows Phone application and developer ecosystem efforts”.

Come on, Phoney “7” shows at 0.08% of page views on Wikimedia, and 0.67% of the mobile page views. However, “As a true innovator in the mobile technology industry, Gavin’s proven track record of providing high level leadership to the biggest names in mobile technology makes him the perfect addition to our growing family of talented professionals” suggests his short stint (6 months) at M$ was due to the inertia of M$ and resistance to fixing what Steve B said wasn’t broken. It’s apparently not a good place for innovators.

He has worked for several years for other players… NQ must believe M$ was the problem and not Gavin Kim. I can buy that.

So when Microsoft can’t finagle the numbers any more to achieve anything above 1%, it’s time to just lie outright. Good one iLia. So now we can take anything you post with a healthy dose of skepticism… Oh wait, we do that anyway.

Yes! to all questions. They all work perfectly on my system. M$ does not get to say what is “correct” on my system.

I don’t believe any of your numbers, iLia. No sources, no credence.

The only place I see 14% is from IDC and it’s their prediction for 2012 based mainly on Nokia’s current share with Symbian. Android is top dog by any measure. IDC is excited about 250K sales between September 2011 and February 2012.

    So what?

Does it make Linux any better? Have software companies started porting their apps to Linux? Has LibreOffice started to open and save .doc documents correctly. Has Inkscape become as powerful as CorelDraw?

In Russia smartphones with Windows Phone have 14% market share.

Windows Phone was only recently translated in Chinese language. And the Chinese smartphone market is almost as big as US market.

In India Windows phone has 3.6% market share, bigger than Linux desktop share (~1.5%), and 3/4 of Linux users use Windows, so only ~0.4% of desktop users use Linux as their only OS.
