NYC claims to be saving $50million by making a deal with M$. Let’s see. A typical PC lasting 5 years costs $100 for the tax from M$ and $200 for the tax for Office. Say, $300/5=$60 per PC per year. If they have something like 90000 PCs, they could be getting stuff for free. We don’t know the details of the deal but they could get stuff for free using GNU/Linux. I wonder if they considered that.
Paying to be stuck with M$ and getting deeper into their jail just does not seem like a good idea to me. I wonder if they’ll like the food in there.

PJ, hostess of GROKLAW, has won a prize from the Electronic Frontier Foundation for her pioneering work at fighting FUD on the web. PJ started a humble blog intending to share about the law, lawyers and paralegals and SCOG v World triggered a chain reaction which combined with her skill and hard work made a huge body of work available on the web exposing every detail of major issues. She has organized an army or recruits OCRing PDF images of legal documents as far back as the web goes. What began as a blog became a cache of information used by the antagonists in several court battles in real time. Judges even had to consider whether the jury could hear the name, GROKLAW.
It’s a fitting award. A lot has been accomplished and GROKLAW looks like a healthy community organization with lots of possibilities for the future. Congratulations, PJ!
