Vista is imploding. Loyal customers of M$ are fleeing in every direction to quality. The move to GNU/Linux should be that size of larger because GNU/Linux runs on more hardware and the licence is compatible with generic hardware. If PC sales are about 300 million per annum or 25 million per month, 14 % of units could be over 3 million seats. If GNU/Linux is the same, that is 6 million seats lost to the monopoly in a month and 72 million per annum not going to M$. At some point in 2008, OEMs will realize the wave is travelling quickly and they will paddle hard (selling GNU/Linux) to keep up. Growth could increase dramatically. Expect seats of GNU/Linux to reach about 12% of PCs by the end of 2008. If Apple reaches the same level, that is 24% of seats not going with M$ and momentum running away from M$. There is no reason this growth will not continue for a year or two, taking a big share of the market.

Don’t weep for M$. They are already looking for other ways to make money than raking it in from foolish consumers and locked-in enterprises. Yahoo, Xboxes and other trinkets will give some growth on top of income from the securely locked-in USA (until now) but a big downside looms.
